Lioncode and our specialized developers, faithfully following the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) standard, successfully created the prosvasis.dypa.gov.gr website for the platform of the largest organization in Greece, DYPA (formerly OAED). A unique platform fully compliant with the WCAG 2.1 AAA standard, enabling a wider audience to visit the site, access information, and interact with its content, thereby enhancing digital accessibility for all users.
This particular platform, with a unique design and built from scratch, is precisely tailored to the needs of the organization, placing digital accessibility and equal access to information for people with disabilities at the forefront.
Through the implementation of this project, our company was awarded the Gold Award at the Impact Bite Awards 2022, Greece’s premier IT awards, in the Public Sector Organizations category. A recognized project that meets the requirements of people with disabilities according to modern global accessibility standards, resulting in a significant social impact.
What exactly is the WCAG (accessibility) standard?
Why is it so important for society, and why specifically WCAG 2.1 AAA?
Initially, the WCAG standard refers to a set of guidelines that developers must follow when creating a website to make its content accessible to people with various disabilities. More specifically, it enables individuals with vision, hearing, speech, language, mobility, and other neurological and cognitive impairments to see, read, and understand the website’s content. Additionally, this standard can also be useful for some elderly users who can more easily read the content.
Creating a platform fully compliant with the WCAG standard is a highly significant achievement for society because it makes the platform functional and understandable for a broader audience and durable over time. This was our primary goal during the implementation of dypa.gov.gr, a government platform visited by thousands of users daily, which must be accessible to all citizens.
Finally, regarding the WCAG 2.1 AAA version, it is an updated edition compared to 2.0, including some new guidelines and technologies. The AAA level indicates that the highest level of accessibility and compliance with the standard has been achieved, depending on the number of guidelines the developer has followed.
